Look Alive
Hello, I miss you. I will hopefully be back soon with a full note.
I’ve had a little problem with some scams/phishing involving Substack wannabes, so this is just a reminder that if you get anything that looks wonky or is asking for personal information, don’t click on anything! (Re: Substack - all return addresses should read “substack.com” at the end; I got some pretty sophisticated fakes in the body of the email and it was only by checking the return address that I realized something was up). On my end, I’m changing passwords and trying to make sure things are copacetic. This newsletter is FREE and will always be free, so I’ll never be asking you for money.
Besides being on the receiving end of this intense email fraud campaign, I also came home from my trip to find someone had swiped my trash can (we have it on camera and it happened at 9 in the morning??) and today, I watched the house next door being broken into at 1pm in the afternoon.
Guys, capitalism is EXHAUSTING. Like, I really, really do not want to spend my life trying to militantly guard “stuff” because our stupid society can’t figure out how to take our abundant resources and SHARE. Scammers are especially gross, because they’re capitalizing ON capitalism and deploying actual skills that could probably be used for something worthwhile, but instead are creating fake emails or phone scams to steal vulnerable people’s personal information. It’s annoying we’ve created a culture where this can actually be lucrative (let alone possible).
If you desperately need my government-issued trash can, have at it, and as long as you don’t hurt me, I can’t say that I care if you squat in the empty eye sore down the street. But, the fact is a lot of “crime” exists because of the inequality in our society, and I realize I can’t just shake my fist and yell at “circumstances” while I’m still part of the problem. This system we’ve created is not working for the vast majority of people and none of us are going to feel “comfortable” (let alone “safe) until we do something that supports everyone.
While we’re working on that, don’t follow any sus links in an email, ok?
I am tired. I love you.
